Stanford Medicine Children’s Health advocating to improve health

Government Relations

About us

Our Government Relations team works with Stanford Medicine Children’s Health’s leadership to advance and sustain our hospital and work to improve the health of our community. We implement short and long-term strategies through work with legislators and their staff and with government entities at the federal, state, and local levels.

Government Relations is part of Government Relations, Community Relations, and Volunteer Services, which empowers us to go beyond our hospital walls to care for patients, families, and our community.

Our strategy

We work with hospital leadership to develop and implement overall strategies to support and sustain our hospital, and support selected initiatives at federal, state, and local levels. We provide education and expertise to policymakers as they develop regulations and bill ideas related to maternal and children’s health.

Our team assesses the potential impact of policies, budgets, and legislation and advocates based on our hospital’s priority issues for monitoring and follow-up. Key policy issues include Medicaid; accessible care; workforce development, including Children’s Hospital Graduate Medical Education; mental health; and telehealth. Our team provides particular expertise on California policy matters related to California Children’s Services (CCS) and children with complex health care needs.

Our team develops and maintains relationships with health policy, child advocacy and other external organizations, including state and national hospital associations. We develop and implement advocacy approaches with collaborative external organizations on issues of mutual concern.
