Children with heart disease can lead healthy, active lives

Young Hearts in Motion Program

We believe that children with heart disease can lead healthy, active lives. Our Young Hearts in Motion exercise program at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health aims to improve the health, wellness, and quality of life of your child with complex congenital heart disease or acquired heart disease.

The goal is not weight loss; instead, we empower your child to improve strength, flexibility, heart health, and confidence. A result is often a lasting healthy fitness lifestyle.

Why choose our heart exercise program

  • Our program is run by experts in heart disease and exercise. Your child is cared for by pediatric cardiologists and exercise physiologists who have developed a safe, proven program. In-person health assessments are given before, during, and after the program, and virtual, personalized exercise sessions are led by an exercise physiologist.
  • We are more than just an exercise program. Our care integrates mental health support to address emotional blocks around exercise, as well as nutrition support.
  • We are the only multidisciplinary, research-based program of its kind in California. And we’re one of a handful of programs in the country. Our program is based on research, including our own on children with complex heart disease, which found that a fitness program improves their heart and overall health. Outpatient exercise programs for children with heart disease are hard to find. We are excited to offer our robust, multidisciplinary heart exercise program.
